Speaker:  Verne Jackson and Greg Frommer of the Cedar Amateur Astronomers Club discussed the plans for the expansion of the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center. Through a joint effort of the CAA and the Linn County Conservation Department, significant improvements at the Eastern Iowa Observatory are in the works. A new expanded facility at the Palisades Dows Preserve will begin in September. This facility will provide observatories for both the Boller & Chivens 24 inch telescope and the Meade 16 inch robotic telescope, as well as provide presentation facilities for all types of programs. Total cost of the new facility will exceed $700,000, and the group still needs to raise over $48,000 by September 10 to comply with terms of their Vision Iowa grant. Additional information can be obtained at the group's website at www.cedar-astronomers.org.
