Guests:   none

Birthdays:  March 15 - Bob Dye;

AnnouncementsKelly Moore passed around a sign up sheet for speaker coordinators.  He needs five months covered.

Pancake Henry reported that he will report next week at which time he will give the final report, at least that’s what he reported today.  He also passed around several thank you notes from charities who received pancake tickets.

Happy BucksChuck Wehage – paid a fine for missing the mid-year meeting in Ames due to icy roads.  I think we should have fined him if he decided to travel on icy roads.

Joe Schmall – what a fine piece of electronic workmanship that Jim Doyne does on his radio show; Rod Grimm – thankful he missed the snow and ice while he was south; John Anderson – happy Joe didn’t screw up too much on J. Doyne’s show; Joe Nolte – his guest last week wants an application; Papa Dick Boardman – so happy to see his son that a mere dollar wouldn’t begin to reflect on his happiness so he threw a check in; Duane Kurrelmeyer – survived an angioplasty last Friday; Ray Vaughn – Twin Pines is open; and Ron Sunderman – CR Symphony Concert and Chorale has a big show this Saturday at the Paramount.

 Next week’s program:  It's a surprise (which is the scribes way of saying that we don't know)

Speaker:   Chuck Wehage introduced Dan Hoeger, deacon at St. Pat’s Catholic Church.  Dan was ordained 18 years ago and had been working full-time in the corporate world until January 2002.  At that time he decided to devote his life’s work to being a deacon full-time.  Along with his duties as a deacon, Dan also serves as the Catholic Chaplain for the police department and works closely with the Criminal Iowa Juvenile Justice system.  He has been struck by the number of people who come into the office just to talk about about problems they are facing, such as divorce, unemployment, a financial crisis, depression, etc.  His message was primarily focused on the need for the world, but particularly Americans to seek personal happiness.  He mentioned that India was ranked the #2 happiest country in the world as compared to the U.S. at #42.  He referred to several studies that indicate the level of stress in our country has risen:  In 1983, one study showed that 55% of Americans experienced great stress at least once a week.  That number rose to 75% in 1996 and 80% just a few years ago.

He has authored a book, “The Objective Path for us Everyday People” and also has developed a full-day seminar.  Cost of the book is $14.95 if anyone is interested.  Thanks Dan for the message.  We can always use a reminder that we have much to be thankful, and therefore, happy about.

Word for the day:   Well, let’s just say that if I fail to articulate in writing the true meaning of this word, then I might very well be sesquipidalianating.  Da Bears say that Da Word for Da day is: sesquipidalianism.  Literally, it means a foot and ½ long.  Using words much larger than needed or too many words to get your point across or going on and on when you don’t need to go on and on and on and on… What else can I say.
