Next week’s program: Speaker: Joe Nolte introduced Kenneth White, chairman of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission. Kenneth came to his new job in Cedar Rapids six months ago from Minnesota, and may be a card-carrying Gopher fan. His office is on the 9th floor of the APAC building, not City Hall ( a good thing, says Kenneth). He has been in the Civil Rights and diversity business basically his whole life. He is a Kiwanian, having been a charter member of the Mankato Diversity Kiwanis Club. His experience includes his time at Mankato State, University of Minnesota, and a job with the Minneapolis Civil Rights Commission. One activity for middle shoolers who qualify: a trip to Southern civil rights sites of significance – Little Rock, 19th ST. Baptist Church, Selma and Montgomery. The Commission hopes to sponsor an element in Middle School about civil rights history. Word for the day: Postprandial: Done, made, taken, happening, etc., after dinner; after-dinner.
