Speaker:   Bob Hatala, a member of the Opera Board, introduced Daniel Kleinknecht, the director of the Cedar Rapids Opera.  Daniel spoke of how an opera helps a community stand out as being extraordinary which as a part of a vital arts program helps a community grow.   In January the company will perform the Rossini's Barber of Seville on the 12th and 14th.  The company also offers a summer program, this year staging Donizetti's Elixir of Love and Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.  All performances include English surtitles (projected above the stage) will be displayed to make the experience more enjoyable for all.  The Opera has a growing endowment to better secure the future of Opera in Cedar Rapids.

Tickets can be purchased at the Theatre Cedar Rapids box office and he thought they were $35 and $50 per ticket.  You can visit the Opera company's web site at www.cr-opera.org

Word for the day:   Insouciance – Carelessness, indifference, unconcern.  No one defined it at the meeting.
