NEWSLETTER Cedar Rapids Downtown Kiwanis Club Wednesday, November 28, 2007 The meeting was called to order by Bob Hatala. 29 Members in attendance. Happy Bucks: Sunderman had a buck in sympathy for Dr. Dave Graeff, but the scribe missed if this a result of an event, or a prediction of an event to come. Joe Nolte related his first brush with THE TALK in connection with his dog’s surgery and his son’s curiosity. Kevin Carlson had a buck for Doug Dix, the saddened Denver Bronco's fan. Pam Landon’s daughter turned 21, worth a buck, and another went in the cup because of the mother-daughter cruise they recently took. President Hatala had a buck for the Missouri Tigers, Jim Platt was confused about his Medicare Part D presentation, upcoming. Dick Boardman expressed shock and awe over Joe Nolte’s story. Dan Breitbach was very happy that his “parents” didn’t subscribe to Joe Nolte’s explanation. Don Grimm celebrated with a dollar the completion of two handicap ramps by the Rockwell Retirees this week. Sunderman had another lame joke about the Nolte difficulties. Dave Graeff had a mean zinger for the Hawkeyes, based on comparison with his #1 Tigers. Next week’s program: 12/5 – Mark Hazlett, Salvation Army; 12/19 Kenneth Weiss Speaker: Kathy Green, principal of Metro HS gave a clear picture of the value of and challenges posed by staff of the school. It is the largest alternative HS in Iowa, and the most successful. Most students come from poverty, have attended many schools, and have an uphill climb to prepare for the future.
