Next week’s program:   Kids In Cars (Marshalltown  Kiwanis)

Speaker:  Kelly Moore introduced Darcy Beemis, the Director of Development for Theatre Cedar Rapids.  Darcy gave a very nice presentation on the Theatre.  They produce eight productions each year with an all volunteer cast.  In fact, the organization has over 700 volunteers.  Performances this year include 2 Disney children’s shows, 1 family holiday show – Hans Christian Andersen and West Side Story.  They also hold a youth theatre for ages 6-13 which runs on Saturdays for a month.  They also run a summer theatre camp with a performance at the end.

TCR’s annual operating budget is $871,000 and has 12 people on staff.  Its fundraising goal is typically 55-60% or $477,000.

All in all, it was a very informative program.

Word for the day:   Don Grimm challenged us with:  “belcanto”.  Some members were close, but there were no cigars today.  It means “full, rich tone”.
