Happy Bucks:  Only a few brave souls pulled $1 bills out of their pockets today: John Schweitzer – no slush yet (I believe he’s referring to the weather and not the development of a slush fund so early in Chuck’s reign as President); Dick Boardman –the elections are over and he and mom can now concentrate on their prodigal son’s long-term financial security; Joe Schmall – two bucks for Xavier’s wins over Prairie and Cedar Falls; Don Grimm – Allen’s service shop almost charged him a $100+ for some repairs if it weren’t for the ever-watchful eye of our wordsmith; Mel Rhodes – another one happy the elections are over (if you are really happy you can help mom and dad with my long-term financial security); Dan Breitbach – his mime training seems to be -----

Next week’s program:  Darci Bemus, Theatre Cedar Rapids

Speaker:  Jim Platt gave our program today on the latest Medicare plans. He’s had extensive training in this area and it showed as he covered the major points of both the traditional and the newer Advantage Medicare plans.  There are advantages to both plans depending on the individual’s situation.   He presented the members with several handouts.  If any of you are interested in knowing more and weren’t able to attend today’s meeting, give Jim a call.

Word for the day:   Don Grimm thought that the word today would be guessed correctly.  However, he gave us too much credit.  The word: ascetic.  We didn’t’ come close to guessing correctly so Don, once again, had to divulge the answer: “one who is extremely rigorous in the practice of self-denial, whether by seclusion or by abstinence from creature comforts.”

Submitted -  Dan Breitbach, soon-to-be heir to the vast Boardman treasure chest via the long-term financial planning that is now underway

 KIWANIS SPEAKER COORDINATORS:

November 2006 - Joe Nolte and Kelly Moore
December 2006 - Bob Hatala
