3. Kevin Carlson – a buck for his cat after 17 years and one for Jim Doyne playing Sinatra tunes last weekend
4. Jim Platt – happy Doyne finally got his replacement car and for the fine table group that he sits with each week
5. Jim Doyne – 2 bucks: happy he got his car after a 7 mo. wait, too; and for the joke about the toilet seat being dishwasher safe. Makes you wonder how clean the dishes are.
6. John Schweitzer – happy for the upcoming fishing trip and the big lie he’ll tell about the one that got away when he returns Upcoming programs: June 11: Civil War Re-enactment June 18: Economics of Municipal Solid Waste June 25: IA Dept of Public Health re: New smoking law Speaker: Dr. Graeff introduced Janet Wilhelm, the Director of the Freedom Festival. Janet’s been with Freedom Festival for 7 years now. She gave an excellent rundown on what to expect this year. The festival kicks off on June 19. She passed booklets around, quizzed the club and handed out festival buttons to the winners which almost created a donnybrook between Jim Moriarity and Mike Poggenklass over America and Three Dog Night (soon to be Two Dog Night according to Doug Dix – who has insider info on such things evidently). Janet did warn the group that the one variable they have no control over is the weather; and with the forecast not good, they’ve moved the concerts indoors to insure that they go on. It’s the 25th festival and one of the great events each year for CR and the surrounding communities. She encouraged all to come out and join in. Word for the day: Don Grimm confused us once again with “solatium”. Kevin Carlson made a stab at it, only to be rejected. The definition: a sum of money, or other compensation, given to a person to make up for loss or inconvenience. Submitted: Dan Breitbach |
