Election will take place two weeks from today, i.e., May 30.

2. Sister Charmaine and Rod Thorpe reported that Ray Vaughn was injured in an accident at his home. He spent a night in the hospital and is now at home recovering. He will be on golf's injured reserve list for 3 weeks.

3. Dick Boardman reported that Dwayne Kurrelmeyer injured his hand, but is doing OK.

4. Dan Breitbach, Chuck Wehage and Sister Charmaine attended Kay Bloom's retirement ceremony at Xavier. Kay is to be commended for her fine efforts in building and promoting Key Club at Xavier. We wish her and her husband well in their retirement in Michigan.

Happy Bucks:   Dan B: commemorating his “parents.”  Dick Boardman: “you can be replaced.”  Steve Walrath: ... in hopes for an inheritance, too.  Schweitzer: hoping to replace Dan with the gumball machine.  Doug Dix: honoring Phil Mickelson, who won in spite of himself.  Don Grimm: $10 for all unannounced happiness, minus one for the word of the day.  Dave Graeff: commemorating & feeling great empathy for the pro golfer who took 7 on par 3  Joe Nolte: for finding Jim Doyne on the radio as he wended his way to Ft Dodge, and for the last of his brothers graduating from high school.  Dan Breitbach: for Jim Doyne mentioning his name on air and causing an former teacher to look him up. .

Next week’s program:  

Speaker:   Lt. Gov to be from Byron reported on the word of the District Foundation and its fund raising programs, especially the Pediatric Trauma Kit program. Clubs are encouraged to donate $5 per yr per member to support the Foundation. Individuals can also donate. Levels of Giving: life member, $100.  Star: $200. Bartlett: in memory of Wes Bartlet, the first International President from Iowa.  $1000, which can be given in installments.  Members can donate by automatic bank draft each month.

The International Foundation has sponsored a number of highly significant projects, including the iodine project in the 1990s. This project reached out to 80% of the world's population and is one of the most successful charitable projects of the past decades. It has also funded schools in Central America, parks in US cities, Early Education programs for children in Jamaica. Our club has donated $800 in July of 2006; a 2007 donation will be welcomed.  

Byron would like to see a new chapter formed in Cedar Rapids and centered in the Edgewood HyVee store. It would expect to draw membership from Aegon and the other businesses in the newly developing commercial area on the west corner of town.
