NEWSLETTER Cedar Rapids Downtown Kiwanis Club Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 The meeting was called to order by President Chuck Wehage. 38 Members in attendance. Guests: Birthdays: None Anniversaries: Mary Corkery (2000), David Graeff (1985) and Joseph Schmall (1985). Ray Vaughn informed us that he had been a Kiwanian for 49 years now . He informed the membership in attendance what a marvelous experience it has been for him and how great it is to be a Kiwanian. Congratulations Ray on your service to this club Announcements: Happy Bucks: Dave Graeff, Joe Schmall, Dan Breitbach, John Anderson and yes, Don Grimm paid his IOU's from last week. . Next week’s program: Speaker: The program for the day was State Senator RobbHogg who represents District 19 from NE/SE Cedar Rapids. Robb is an attorney with a law firm from CR and had served 2 sessions in the Iowa House before being elected to the Iowa State Senate. Following an introduction by Keith Sutherland, Robb enlightened the club regarding what he felt were the most important pieces of legislation passed by the Iowa House and Senate this year. Included were pieces of legislation raising the tobacco tax, raising the minimum wage, increased funding for Medicaid, increased support for community colleges, and a resolution honoring Zach Johnson as the winner of the Master's Tournament. Word for the day: MIMESIS Rhetorical, A figure of speech, whereby the supposed words or actions of another are imitated.
