Upcoming Programs: June programs are being covered by Bob Hatala and Dan Breitbach. June 3 – Kevin Carlson on NING June 10 – Brian Fagan June 17 – TBA June 24 – TBA Speaker: Don Grimm introduced Don Palmer and Clark Rieke, retired engineer and realtor respectively, who presented a program on the Minutemen Retention Basin – an alternative to the levee/dike proposal to alleviate the flooding that has occurred in our watershed. Don gave a very concise presentation on what might be a much more effective plan to reduce flooding than the current ones being considered by the city. Costs would be significantly lower and if successful, would not only reduce flood damage to our cities but also address the water quality issues now facing us. Hampering this plan is a lack of awareness at present. Hopefully, our city and state leaders will take a look at this alternative. Word for the day: Mary Corkery stunned the vocabularic world, not unlike Rachel Alexander winning the Preakness and becoming the first filly in 85+ years to do so, by correctly guessing? the meaning of “Dispepsia” – loss of appetite, depression of spirits. (And yes, I know there is no such word as vocabularic, but it sounds cool and adjectival in nature.) Submitted: Dan Breitbach - El Verboso Bloviatoro |
