Word for the Day:   Ineluctable: not to be escaped from despite struggle.

Program Overview: Amy Geiger, executive director of Cedar Rapids Schools Foundation, explained the role of this 501(c)3 corporation as a provider of tools needed by educators, but not available through channels.   In this role, they augment and compliment the activities of PTAs.   They are especially helpful for kids at risk, they often need out-of-the-box teaching aids.   Such items as calculators (including graphing calculators for advanced high school mathematics), scholarships, field trips, socializing events (going to restaurants, bowling, etc.) for kids that seldom have such opportunities, are available.   Amy noted that the Kernels really helped out this season with a 50/50 raffle at home games, which yielded over $2K for athletic equipment purchases.
